There has been a huge amount of positive activity in the mental health space, both within the Alliance and more generally in the business community, over recent months. Highlights have included our Chairman’s breakfast, with Simon Stevens, Head of NHS England, and the finalisation of our measuring performance project with Frontier and Public Health England (PHE). Very many thanks to all those who have participated in the event and project.
We have also been very fortunate in that Linklaters has kindly made available to us a resource of seven individuals from the firm to support us over the coming months through an amazing programme called ‘Beyond Me’. The team is taking the lead on organising our annual event which will take place in the last quarter of this year. We will be in touch with you as this event develops.
Looking to the future, on the resourcing front, we are looking to hire a Chief Operating Officer. We are also interested in expanding our management committee. So, if you or others in your organisation might be interested, please let us know.
There is also an urgent need for much more research on mental health in business. Our research review with Frontier and PHE demonstrated that there is a very significant lack of research in the City (and business more generally) on mental health. This includes what interventions work, and the impact of mental health on productivity. These are crucial questions for CMHA members and the broader UK economy. The interests of government, funders, academics, third sector and business are all starting to align on this point. Members of the management team are engaged in conversations about opportunities for further research and funding with a number of organisations, and we expect to be in further contact with our members in the future as these conversations progress.
