Early careers event:   Do you ever feel that you are not as good at your job as people think you are? Do you ever experience self-doubt and anxiety of being “found out” or of making a mistake?

If so, you are not alone. This is imposter syndrome, and research suggests 70% of people can experience it. But even though it is common, we need to take it seriously. Imposter syndrome can hurt your mental health and career development because a person might work much harder than necessary to prove themselves, be intensely self-critical over smallest mistakes or feel a constant form of anxiety. All of which can lead to burn out.

Join us at our next Thriving From The Start Network event to find out about how to recognise imposter syndrome and what you can do about it. Hear from Sharon Thorne, Chair of the Deloitte Global Board of Directors, who will talk candidly about her experiences of coping with imposter syndrome and offer advice for people early in their career. While Farimah Darbyshire, Head of Programmes, at the CMHA will provide guidance on practical steps you can take to shift attitudes that underpin imposter syndrome. The event will be chaired by Arun Aggarwal, Graduate from Lloyds Banking Group and the Thriving From The Start Committee.

The Thriving from the Start Network is for people who are early in their career, or about to begin a career, and are interested in improving mental health in the workplace. The Network provides an opportunity to connect with others who share the same passion and drive to build mentally healthy workplaces. Your company does not need to be a City Mental Health Alliance member for you to join the Network.
