Every 40 seconds, someone dies by suicide. One in four people will experience a mental health problem this year.


The City Mental Health Alliance (CMHA) is a not-for-profit membership organisation. We believe that the workplace has an opportunity and a responsibility to protect, support and create positive mental health for their people so that they can thrive.

Our unique CMHA model brings together senior business leaders, HR, wellbeing and D&I professionals from our members, along with mental health experts, people with lived experience and industry partners. By collaborating and sharing knowledge of what does and doesn’t work, supported by expert consultancy and practical support at both the operational and leadership level, members are able to accelerate their journey to building a mentally healthy workplace.

This collaborative approach has resulted in pioneering business led and expert guided mental health support for businesses, such as the CMHA’s Thriving at Work Programme. This includes workplace mental health standards, practical guidance, a workplace assessment and benchmarking tool, bespoke mental health consultancy and training, plus a programme of events, seminars and networking opportunities for senior business leaders and HR/Wellbeing professionals.

The collective commitment of our members also means that the CMHA is leading a powerful movement for change in workplace mental health through our work with industry influencers, regulators and Governments.

We are a not-for-profit Community Interest Company, which means that our impact in creating mentally healthy workplaces is the measure of our success. Any surplus income is reinvested back into the important work we do.

Membership of the CMHA allows us to be part of a group of organisations who are leading the way on mental health across the UK, sharing learning and tackling challenges together.  The connections we have made since joining, the early insight we get into new developments in the field and the opportunities it affords to help shape the agenda have been immensely valuable. Access to Poppy and her colleagues provides a sounding board, a barometer, by which we can gauge the progress of our mental health programme and collaboratively innovate to move forward.
