Thriving at Work Global Framework

A Global Workplace Framework for Mental Health

The first resource of its kind to help global businesses accelerate the pace of change and become mentally healthy workplaces.

We are facing a global mental health crisis. Mental health stigma remains high in many countries and it is imperative that access to mental health support is improved. Global employers have a real opportunity to make a difference, not only in tackling stigma and providing support, but also by creating a working environment where people come to work to maintain good mental health.

This Framework is intended for organisations that are either seeking to develop global mental health and wellbeing approaches or as a baseline for the development of programmes of work in countries and/or cities that are starting their journey. It does not replace existing local Thriving at Work Guides but sits above these as an overarching framework. It has been developed using evidence and learning from across the global CMHA membership community on what works in practice, and has been informed by academic research, workplace reports and other resources from across the globe.

This guide has been created in partnership with our global CMHA team, with support and input from our members and expert advisors to ensure that it is relevant to different markets.

The Global Pillars

  1. Create a culture of wellbeing and psychological safety
  2. Develop a mentally healthy working environment
  3. Provide and signpost to accessible resources, tools and support

“We are very excited about the direction that the City Mental Health Alliance is taking in developing a Global Framework. Although we are relatively new to CMHA, we are keen to be part of this new direction. For multinational organisations, that combination of global strategy and initiatives and local execution is crucial to an effective approach.”

“Creating and maintaining mentally health workplaces is a key priority. IIMHL welcomes the creation of this global standards framework for employers by our colleagues at CMHA. We are sure many of our members will find it of great help as they work with businesses and other employers to ensure improved workplace mental health. We are pleased to play our part in sharing it widely and encouraging its use”.
